Special Needs Parenting and Self Care

May 15, 2018 by Jennifer

Special needs mamas, let's talk about self care. The other morning Jackson and I were sitting in the car waiting for speech therapy to start when he decided to crank up the rock and roll and play air guitar. It wasn't even 8 a.m. and he was jamming to Van Halen! ADHD y'all! I haven't had a night away from Jackson in months. John and I haven't had a kid-free getaway in more than a year. There's two reasons for this... We can't leave him with just anyone. Jackson's anxiety makes Continue Reading

Dear Apraxia Mama…

May 11, 2018 by Jennifer

Dear Apraxia Mama: It seems appropriate that Apraxia Awareness Day falls the day after Mother's Day. We're not only our kids' biggest advocates, we're their voice. We drive them countless miles to and from therapy. We speak "their language" and understand them when others don't. To the mama who's been doing the Apraxia song and dance for years - you rock! Her newest book, Sisters Like Us was a good read! It's part of the Mischief Bay Series and so far I've liked all the books in this series. Sisters Harper and Stacey couldn't be more different. Harper was made to be a mother, while her sister is in denial that she's about to become one. While Harper tries to Continue Reading

Three Books to Help with BIG Feelings

April 16, 2018 by Jennifer

Last week we were on our way to pick up our Goldendoodle, Jellybean, from the groomer. I so excited to see Jellybean. I miss her, Jackson said. I could tell he was bubbling with excitement by the way he was bouncing up and down; his smile wide and radiant. He could not wait to see his dog! Now that he's found his voice, Jackson tells us how he feeling more and more. I scared of thunder and lightening. I no like haircuts. They scary. I love Jellybean. She's good dog. I love Continue Reading

You ARE Brave (Even If You Don’t Feel It)

April 10, 2018 by Jennifer

Looking back over my life, three very significant events qualify as brave. Leaving Texas to attend the University of Oklahoma (where I knew ONE person), deciding to adopt a child and pulling my kid out of public school to homeschool. I reached each of these decisions with shaking legs. While I had complete peace and confidence that the Lord had called me to each of them, not a single part of me felt brave. I was homesick for months after moving north of the Red River. I was up Continue Reading
