Homeschooling a child with unique learning needs has pushed me out of my comfort zone more than anything I've ever done. I was the mom who said I would never homeschool; I resisted for a really long time. It turns out I didn't have much of a choice. God needed me to step outside my comfort zone to meet the unique needs of my son. When you have a child with Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and Dyscalculia, (The Four D's), you cannot force them to fit inside the box that is public Continue Reading
Dysgraphia, Writing Accommodations and Learning Cursive
Jackson was officially diagnosed with Dysgraphia last month. Dysgraphia is a learning difference that affects handwriting. Handwriting has always been hard for Jackson. There's a whole lot of motor planning involved; add weak fine motor skills to the mix and the struggle is real. He spent years writing only capital letters and still prefers that to writing lowercase. Jennifer Reads {January 2021}

It's been a year of growth. It's been hard at times, but overall, so, so good. What makes this year unforgettable? So many things: our annual trip to the beach, taking Jackson to Disney World, the amazing progress Jackson has made in so many areas, realizing what a privilege it is to homeschool Continue Reading
Learning and a Lemonade Stand
Here's what I'm learning as a homeschool mom... Say YES! Jackson had asked me several times earlier this summer if he could have a lemonade stand. I didn't think much of his request until I saw a Facebook friend help her daughter set up a lemonade stand. It got me thinking... Allowing Jackson to have a lemonade stand could be a valuable learning experience. So I said yes! I told him we would have a lemonade stand on Friday and he was pumped! We took a trip to the store and bought Continue Reading
