What Transparency Does

February 8, 2017 by Jennifer

Monday I found myself in a bad spot. After a grueling few days in the motherhood department, I was sinking deeper to rock bottom. I sat on the couch, tears streaming down my face with one of two options. I could keep quiet about the struggle or I could be transparent. I posted a not-so-flattering photo of myself on my personal Facebook page with these words: The past week has been HARD.  I sat on the couch after school today feeling completely helpless.  I yelled at my husband Continue Reading

Wings for Autism

February 6, 2017 by Jennifer

Last week John was out of town on a work trip. Monday, as he walked out the door with his suitcase, we reminded Jackson that Daddy was going to ride an airplane and be gone for a few days. Jackson didn't like that his Daddy was riding an airplane and he wasn't. Jackson ride airplane, too, he said. We've yet to fly with Jackson. Five Minute Friday {Breathe}

February 3, 2017 by Jennifer

The phone call should have made me breathe a sigh of relief. The results of the MRI were normal, there were no abnormalities, the nurse said. After hanging up the phone I found myself in a puddle of tears. Tears of relief because there was nothing majorly wrong with my son's brain and tears of frustration because I had hoped that maybe, just maybe the MRI would shed some light on his neurological disorders. Was I crazy to feel this way? I had asked the nurse this exact Continue Reading

Ten Things I Learned In January {2017}

January 31, 2017 by Jennifer

Jackson and Jellybean LOVE the Snow We got a decent amount of snow earlier this month and I couldn't keep Jackson or the Doodle out of it! They played and had so much fun! Watching them bursting with joy as they dashed through the white stuff was worth the hassle of getting bundled up multiple times in one day for a few minutes of snow play. I lost count of how many times I put Jackson's pants in the dryer that day! Jackson Can Write His Name I've shared before that fine motor skills Continue Reading

Special Needs, Discipline and PCIT

January 23, 2017 by Jennifer

Last week I was scrolling through my Facebook feed and came across a post that made me stop. I couldn't believe what I was reading. I'll admit I was offended by what I read; something along the lines of back in my day, the best cure for ADHD was a father's belt. While I was offended by the words, I was more disturbed by the person who posted them; a highly educated individual whom I respect. As the mother of child with ADHD And other neurological disorders, I take offense to people Continue Reading
