Four Books I Read In June

June 27, 2019 by Jennifer

I had mixed feelings when public school ended and summer started. It meant the places we frequented as a homeschool family would now be crowded. I just wasn't sure how to do summer when we technically school year-round. I was a little reluctant going into summer, but now I am living it up. Summer for us has meant slower days and a much needed break from therapies. I didn't realize just how burnt out Jackson and I both were until we didn't have any place to be each morning. We are Continue Reading

One Year Into Homeschooling {What I’ve Learned}

March 7, 2019 by Jennifer

One year ago today I signed a simple slip of paper and handed it to my son's elementary school principal. That slip of paper was all that was required of me to pull Jackson out of public school and homeschool him. It was the scariest and most freeing decision I've ever made. As I reflect on the last year, I can honestly say it's been pretty good. My kid is happy and thriving. He is learning at his own pace and in his own unique ways. His anxiety is under control. The meltdowns are gone. We Continue Reading

I Want To Be A Brave Learner {Five Takeaways from the Book!}

March 6, 2019 by Jennifer

I spent all of February diving into Julie Bogart's new book Brave Learner.  I usually don't spend an entire month reading one book, but I wanted to let all the homeschool goodness soak in. We're about to celebrate one year of homeschooling and the truth is I'm still trying to figure out what works best for us. I am still scared I'm going to mess up Jackson's education. This book renewed my hope. It sparked a fire deep within me to create a learning environment where Jackson Continue Reading

The Power Of A Pen Pal

March 4, 2019 by Jennifer

When I was five-years-old I met a little girl in Durango, Colorado while on family vacation. Her family was camped next to mine and we spent an entire day playing in the fresh mountain air. We traded addresses over a snack of potato sticks and spent the next decade writing letters to one another. We were Pen Pals. A while back, I "met" a fellow Apraxia mama on social media. She and I connected over our boys and their shared diagnosis. We also bonded over photography and our love of the Continue Reading

Nine Things I Learned in February {2019}

March 1, 2019 by Jennifer

February flew by; but good golly there were way too many gloomy, cold days. I am so ready for warm weather and sunshine! I'm not sure I've ever been this ready for Spring. Actually, I'm really just ready to get my toes in the sand and sit my booty on a beach. This month I feel like I learned a lot - about homeschooling and motherhood. I was also reminded that life is just down-right hard sometimes. Here's a few lessons I'm taking with me as I leave February behind... The Word Stupid Can Continue Reading
