The $80 That Wasn’t Wasted

February 18, 2019 by Jennifer

Back in December we took Jackson to a small monster truck show in Texas. He loves monster trucks and we thought it would be a great birthday present. We also wanted to see how he would do before buying tickets to the Monster Jam tour when it rolled through Oklahoma City in February. The event was in a super small colosseum and the building was metal. The moment the trucks reeved their engines, Jackson went into fight/flight mode. It was so loud my insides were shaking. It was unlike anything Continue Reading

What I Love About Him {Choosing To Focus on His Gifts}

February 14, 2019 by Jennifer

For so many years we’ve had to focus on the developmental delays. We’ve been focused on his speech since he was 18-moths-old. We had to help him find his voice. These days we focus on helping him learn to read and all the things that make learning difficult.  Our world has been speech therapy appointments, IEP meetings and appointments with specialists.  Sometimes it’s hard to focus on the gifts when things are so hard. But this year I'm determined to focus on all the things I love Continue Reading

The Book I’ll Keep Reading to Him Over and Over Again

February 13, 2019 by Jennifer

I knew we had to add Elbow Grease to our book collection the moment I saw it at Target. The tiny blue monster truck adorning the cover caught my attention because my kid is a big fan of monster trucks. On any given day you can find them scattered all across our family room floor. I purchased the book unaware of how timely its message would be for my kid. Elbow Grease is the story of a small, blue monster truck who is different. He stands out when he's in a crowd of big, bad monster trucks. Continue Reading

The Day I Wanted To Throw In The Towel

January 21, 2019 by Jennifer

One week ago I seriously wanted to quit homeschool. Last Monday I had no desire to be his teacher, I just wanted to be his mom. I didn't want to fight about math facts or go round and round about reading. I didn't want to feel guilty when I folded laundry because we should have been learning. I called a local private school and scheduled a tour. That's how serious I was. I was ready to throw in the towel. I didn't care how he received an education, but I was determined I Continue Reading

Bumblebee and My Boy

January 11, 2019 by Jennifer

My boy is infatuated with Transformers these days. "A giant Megatron that turns into a tank" is all he asked Santa for. He unwrapped Transformers on his birthday and on Christmas morning. Transformers have taken over my house. He takes them to speech therapy each week and has in-depth conversations about Autobots and Decepticons with his therapist, Ms. Allie. She's a saint! She never gets tired of talking Transformers with Jackson. They motivate him in therapy and she incorporates Continue Reading
