The Power Of A Pen Pal

March 4, 2019 by Jennifer

When I was five-years-old I met a little girl in Durango, Colorado while on family vacation. Her family was camped next to mine and we spent an entire day playing in the fresh mountain air. We traded addresses over a snack of potato sticks and spent the next decade writing letters to one another. We were Pen Pals. A while back, I "met" a fellow Apraxia mama on social media. She and I connected over our boys and their shared diagnosis. We also bonded over photography and our love of the Continue Reading

Embracing This Special Life – Guest Post By Jenn Soehnlin

February 20, 2019 by Jennifer

Today I would like to welcome Jenn to the blog! She's a fellow Apraxia Mama who recently wrote a book about embracing the special needs life! Today she's sharing an excerpt from her book, Embracing This Special Life: Learning to Flourish as a Mother of a Child with Special Needs. One lucky reader will win a copy of her book. February 14, 2019 by Jennifer

For so many years we’ve had to focus on the developmental delays. We’ve been focused on his speech since he was 18-moths-old. We had to help him find his voice. These days we focus on helping him learn to read and all the things that make learning difficult.  Our world has been speech therapy appointments, IEP meetings and appointments with specialists.  Sometimes it’s hard to focus on the gifts when things are so hard. But this year I'm determined to focus on all the things I love Continue Reading

The Book I’ll Keep Reading to Him Over and Over Again

February 13, 2019 by Jennifer

I knew we had to add Elbow Grease to our book collection the moment I saw it at Target. The tiny blue monster truck adorning the cover caught my attention because my kid is a big fan of monster trucks. On any given day you can find them scattered all across our family room floor. I purchased the book unaware of how timely its message would be for my kid. Elbow Grease is the story of a small, blue monster truck who is different. He stands out when he's in a crowd of big, bad monster trucks. Continue Reading
