October Writing Challenge #1 – NEED

October 1, 2021 by Jennifer

I have a list hanging on my bathroom mirror – four things that help my mental health tremendously.

I need to move my body…

I need to fill my head with Truth…

I need to talk to Jesus…

I need to read good books…

Lately I’ve been thinking I need to start writing again.

There are so many reasons why I stopped – fear and the demanding seasons of motherhood and homeschooling.

But I also stopped because I needed to find freedom from the pressure to perform.

Writing and blogging had become restrictive.

Instead of writing because I love streaming words together and telling stories, I got caught up in the comparison trap. I worried about how many people were reading and whether anyone would comment. Did my words really matter?

I stopped writing for me.

I stopped doing something I loved.

But I think I need to change that.

It’s 10 p.m. on October 1st and I’ve decided I’m going to do an October Writing Challenge. Better late than never, right?

I’m going to add writing to the list of things that help my mental health and I’m going to do it for me.
